Analysis of Ultimate Metal Guard Engine Properties: Low SAPS Technology and Unique Ash Reduction

Quick Summary: A Breakthrough in DPF Protection and Engine Ecology

Most traditional engine oil additives are based on outdated, high-ash formulas which, whilst protecting the engine block, irreversibly damage exhaust after-treatment systems (DPF, GPF). Ultimate Metal Guard Engine is the only additive on the market that, rather than increasing it, actually reduces the total ash content of the engine oil. Thanks to the use of an innovative, chemically ultra-pure base, once the additive is added to the engine oil, the total concentration of destructive ash is diluted. Low SAPS guarantees crystal-clear cleanliness of the combustion chamber, prevents the ‘sandpaper’ effect in the cylinders and radically extends the trouble-free operation of particulate filters and EGR valves.

Detailed Analysis: Why is Ash the Silent Killer of the Modern Engine?

To understand the importance of Low SAPS technology, we must explain exactly what sulphated ash is. During normal engine operation, minimal amounts of oil always enter the combustion chamber. When pure oil is burned, it turns into gases. Unfortunately, metallic additives (often used in cheap engine additives) do not burn – when exposed to extreme temperatures, they leave behind a hard, non-combustible residue, i.e. ash.

The ‘Sandpaper’ Effect in Cylinders

Before this hard ash reaches the exhaust, it remains in the combustion chamber. It settles on the piston crown, valves and rings. These microscopic, crystallised ash particles act in the cylinder exactly like liquid sandpaper. Every up-and-down movement of the piston involving these hard contaminants causes irreversible scratching of the cylinder walls (so-called ‘bore polishing’) and wear of the piston rings, leading to loss of compression and oil consumption. Keeping ash levels extremely low is an absolute prerequisite for eliminating this destructive phenomenon from inside the engine.

Laboratory Proof: The Only Additive That Reduces Ash

Traditional Mid-SAPS oils (used in modern diesel and petrol engines) have a natural sulphated ash content of around 0.78% – 0.80%. Adding a standard additive increases this value, exceeding safe limits.

To demonstrate the uniqueness of Ultimate Metal Guard Engine, the certified Ecol Laboratory tested it in accordance with the rigorous PN-ISO 3987:2014-05 standard.

Test sample: A ready-to-use working mixture was prepared consisting of high-grade MOTUL 8100 5W-30 oil and the UMG additive in a 94:6 ratio.

Analysis result: The sulphated ash content for the entire mixture was just 0.70% (m/m)

Engineering Conclusion: Ultimate Metal Guard Engine is the only additive on the market that acts as a chemical filter – by replacing 6% of the base oil volume with our extremely pure concentrate, you effectively dilute and reduce the total concentration of metallic ash in the system. You gain extreme protection against friction whilst simultaneously ‘cleansing’ the oil of contaminants.

Impact on the Service Life of Exhaust After-Treatment Systems (DPF / GPF / EGR)

Soot particles accumulating in DPF/GPF filters can be burned off during the regeneration process. However, metallic ash is non-combustible – when it enters the particulate filter, it permanently clogs its micropores. Using a mixture that generates just 0.70% sulphate ash means that:

DPF/GPF filters last longer: The absence of excess ash drastically extends the filter’s service life, preventing permanent blockage and the need for costly replacement.
Clean EGR valve: The exhaust gas recirculation system does not become clogged with hard, fossilised carbon deposits, which eliminates valve sticking and ‘Check Engine’ errors.
Catalyst protection: Precious metals in SCR systems and three-way catalytic converters (TWC) are not subject to “caking” or chemical poisoning.

Prevention of LSPI

In small, modern turbocharged petrol engines (TGDI), excess ash accumulating in the combustion chamber is one of the main causes of LSPI (Low-Speed Pre-Ignition) – premature, explosive ignition of the mixture at low revs. Glowing ash particles act like an uncontrolled spark plug, capable of rupturing the piston. The radical reduction in ash achieved by Ultimate Metal Guard Engine virtually eliminates this risk.

Summary: No More Compromises

By adding Ultimate Metal Guard Engine to your engine, you no longer have to choose between armoured protection against friction and the longevity of expensive eco-friendly components. Laboratory-confirmed reduction of sulphated ash levels to 0.70% proves that this is the cleanest and safest friction modifier on the market. It protects cylinders from the ‘sandpaper’ effect and ensures that your car’s modern exhaust system remains in pristine, factory condition.
